It doesn't matter how corny Richard Whiteley's jokes were he did the show for 25 years so it doesn't matter who replaces him it will never be quite the same.

Just my two pence worth.

I used to love the chemistry between Carol and Richard, and between Richard and "Dictionary corner", Dickie Davies is so cut and dry in comparison.

Actually, my parents loved Countdown. Mum would video it in the afternoon, and in the eveningtime they would compete against each other. I'd join them if I was visiting. Sadly, they both died from Cancer earlier this year at young ages. I feel countdown "died" when they died, but I definitely think it's dead and gone now that Richard is no longer with us!

So I'm probably being very unfair criticising Dickie Davies.

I have only seen it in passing, but I feel they could at least have given the show some new life by choosing a presenter who was a bit of a livewire- not hysterical or anything, but someone like Ronnie Corbett or Stephen Fry. It was a snooozefest from what I saw.

Pickly! Am getting the manhole a sealed lid and will take it from there. English Heritage wrote back and said I can apply for various things, but basically stuff like mine is covered by local conservation dept, and typically my local authority has NO schemes... Boo.

Have I missed something? Has Des been sacked and replaced by Dickie Davies?
Scarlett, Stephen Fry turned down the chance to host Countdown. I agree it's gone flat but you will have to give it a few weeks till he finds his feet
Oh, pardon me, I seem to have mistaken who the new presenter is!!! My apologies!
well he's got more life in him than richard whitely...
