Rear Parking Sensors

Hi
I need a set of rear parking sensors fitted to my Scenic. Can anyone tell me how they are connected?
Do they have to be wired thru to the auto gear lever!! Or, as I suspect the fitter drill s 4 holes in the bumper and connects direct to the reversing light thru the boot so that this activates the sensors when I select reverse gear?
