The government has decided to remove funding from 'creationist' schools, is the 'enlightenment' back on track?

Excellent news. I like a little common sense in my government! Nice to see some surfacing.

I also love the comments on the shared article, this one in particular:

"If god wanted us to believe in Darwin's theory - then why did he make it so boring?"

:)
I'm sure it will only be seen as another test of faith by some. :)
The government has been funding creationist schools ?!?!?!?!?

I want my taxes back ! Government should be funding government schools. Others can find their own funding and should have to prove they are giving an acceptable standard of education in order to be allowed to teach (which a "creationist school" may have problems complying with by its very nature).

Ok that off my chest, now I'l look at the link.
Well obviously it should never be taught as science....are there actually any schools who receive government funding in the UK who do this or is it one of those things like banning people keeping elephants in council flats?
I'd have a problem with the elephants one woofgang. Nellie makes a great draught excluder.
Excellent. This is exactly why atheists continue to raise awareness of the stupidity of religion whereever we can. We can change public policy.
evidently they were teaching unprovable opinion as fact.

What implications does this have for, say, English teachers who tell their pupils that Shakespeare was a great writer?
They should add IMO to the start of their statement.
Or possibly "Popular opinion is", or "Expert opinion is".

Literature is about subjectively judged art rather than scientific fact though, so it matters less if the "opinion" bit is left out.
Shakespeare was a great writer. Unfortunately when I went to school the way it was presented often left much to be desired. I only came to appreciate it more later.

It is remarkable how many English expressions had their origins in his work.
I wish they'd make their minds up. They have only discovered the God particle last month.
Excellent! I've no doubt some of these schools will try to get around it somehow though. It will be interesting to see how.
Methinks it is time for a Church of Evolution movement.
