/// Scotland Yard Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe wants to see the number of random stop and searches halved amid fears they are damaging relations with black and ethnic minority groups. ///

Is this kowtowing to these groups?

/// Now police are being told to focus more on stopping people for weapons possession and violence rather than for small amounts of cannabis.///

How do they know what they will find until they have conducted their searches?

/// Today a black adviser to the Met welcomed the new policy but said tougher checks on officers were needed. ///

Seems to me that crime detection is being about-turned and it is the suspect criminal who is now checking out the police.

Why not just let them police themselves, because I think some will never have any respect for the police no matter how lenient the police are to them.

They know from the results of previous searches that the results are more often negative than positive.

They also know from feedback from research, that constantly targeting people for searches causes the kind of resentment that is likely to increase, rather than reduce petty crime, as it alienates people and can result in the attitude "if I'm am constantly to be treated as a criminal, I might as well act like one", or at the very least a lack of sympathy for (and hence reduced co-operation with) the poilce.

The reason why the police target the black population is because that group commit the most crimes when it comes to a weapon. To allow them unfettered freedom will only cause those crimes to increase.

If the black population used their own local knowledge about who the criminals are they could reduce the amount of crime in their neighbourhood by grassing on them. But this they will never do!

So the searches will continue.

We should reduce the amount of 'stop and search' incidents as it inconveniences criminals and drug dealers/users and those who routinely indulge in anti-social behaviour.

We should also remove all store detectives from shops as it inconveniences thieves.

Thats the big problem rov1100 and we have our Governments to thank in letting them in 30/40 years ago!

Im afraid the damage is done and it will only get worse in the years to come.
