got told at the opticians today that I need glasses, £20 eye test then, £99 glasses (granted it was 2 for 1) :-) and £30 to have anti glare treatment on one of the pairs, which probably costs them about 10p! daylight robbery!

True, maidup - we can claim for both, up to a ceiling (I think it's £55 for the specs).

lol dont think my boss would be happy at all if I said to him, "I want the money back for my glasses too" considering I did go for a higher priced pair!
try online places like budgetspex... they are great.

you can also send them old frames to be reglazed for about £9

the lens are not glass so much cheaper, but work exactly the same - and you can get all the extras added like antiglare etc too
No online optician will make up my prescription.
I pay £300 for one lens and nearly £200 for the other.
why hc? is it because theyre different?

you could buy 2 pairs...one of each prescription and swap one lens...

if you get the with evenly shaped lenses you can swap the lenses and make 2 usable pairs.

there must be some other reason though...?
Prisms and varifocals.
That seems expensive to me but I went for a cheapish set of frames and only one pair!
Mine were £389 for two pairs at SS - one pair are sunglasses. I had such a job getting the ones I wanted but got there in the end. However I need to go back, had them since early November but they are so uncomfortable on my face, they feel so sharp and rigid. The nose supports dig in my face and the sides do not sit correctly over my ears. I have taken them back twice already but all they do is pull them out of shape a bit more each time! £400 for that!
I paid 800 euros (around £680) for a pair of varifocals at a local optician, I'm sure I was 'ripped off', but they are excellent quality.
The £1 shop for me, I buy 5 pairs at once . I bought some for £99 from the opticians once still lost them inside a month. The longest I have kept the same pair is 5 months the shortest 20 minutes.
I suppose that does seem an awful lot of money to a young lad for basic glasses.
I've been paying out mega money for glasses for donkeys years .Last lot were nearly five hundred notes .Still I suppose that's loads better than those horrid NHS bottlebottoms I had to wear as a child back in the year dot :)
It is expensive though if you need specific lenses .I put my prescription into one of these online opticians and they wouldn't touch it .
I pay a lot more than that, but I have bifocals with the full treatment, reading glasses and glasses made for looking at this computer. Thank goodness it is only once every two years.
