Considering they have already offered a substantial reward for the capture and conviction of the killer.

And also offered a full apology to the family, so much so that today they are sending a senior officer, accompanied by a family liaison officer, to meet the family.

But apparently this is not enough.

/// His family say the authorities need to do more to restore their faith in Britain and to prove to them that the UK is not a racist country. ///

/// It is a very sensitive issue for any Indian. If someone dies, we have to perform all the rites. We burn the body on the day of death and for the next 13 days we have to do several other things, otherwise the soul might not rest in peace."

Should the authorities have foregone any inquest and released the body immediately for cremation?

Shocking news for the family but, if a UK person had been murdered in India, would the police or government there have done the same, doubt it!!!!

So you did Sandy, please accept my apologies.

Agree, excellent Telegraph article, did you read the readers comments?

These two in particular are thought provoking, what are your thoughts on them?

/// Unsurprisingly the BBC have the arrest of the alleged murdereras the headline item in the news..This young man's murder in no more heinous that dozens of other murders: the grief felt by his his family is no greater than that of other families who have been robbed of a son or brother.. but because it was a minority apparently killed by a white man, the media are in a feeding frenzy, as are police and the DPP. ///

/// How could it happen? How could an Afro-Caribbean murder an elderly Englishman on a street in London during the UK riots? Oh yeah, the telegraph isn't interested in English victims of third world immigrant violence, are you chaps. ///
AOG

The BBC (and others) had the murder being charged as the headline news, because it was. This has been an high profile murder and capturing the apparent culprit is newsworthy.

Unfortunately, there are many murders. If the circumstances are often repeated such as one gang member stabbing another gang member, or a domestic arguement ending in a fatality, then its newsworthyness diminishes.

The Salford murder was unusual (thankfully) and it is for that reason it has been prominent in the news.

I do not buy into the paranoia of the Telegraph poster (and you, if the reason you reposted it is because you share the same view) that the Police, the DPP, the BBC, the Telegraph and the rest are anti-white.

This has been a shocking murder and has brought shame on the country. The Police should be congratulated for apparently solving it so quickly, and taking the very dangerous individual off of the streets. I find your constant criticism of the police and authorities in this case as being a bit warped and misplaced.
The criticism of the Telegraph for not reporting the capture of the murderer of Richard Manningham Bowes in the Ealing riot is wrong. They did report on it.

The murderer was a youth who cannot be named for legal reasons, so that effectively limits what the Telegraph can report.

/// I find your constant criticism of the police and authorities in this case as being a bit warped and misplaced. ///

That is a rather over-exaggeration even for you Gromit.

The only criticism I have made is their need for the police to offer such a huge reward and the need to send a senior police officer over to India, and why only in this particular case?

/// This has been a shocking murder and has brought shame on the country. ///

Why, even your comment above, is for some reason completely over the top, taking into account of the numerous other and sometimes even more vicious and savage killings that take place in this country on an almost daily basis.

Incidentally I am sorry that you could not bring yourself to return my New Year greetings.
They should send a message loud and clear to India and others that this is a racist country. To paint it as a country of milk and honey only encourages those who want a better life they'd better try elsewhere. Once here it is usually too late.
I don't want to get into a debate about which murderers are more shocking than others, but if you do not think that walking up to a complete stranger and shooting them at point blank range through the head in an apparently motiveless murder is not a shocking incident then I pity you.

Apologies for not returning your New Years greeting, Keep up the good work.
the accused has identified himself in court as "Psycho Stapleton".

I suspect a defence of insanity is on the way.
rov1100,
Anuj Bidve was here on a student VISA doing a degree in microelectronics. Universities are grateful for Fees from overseas students as it helps them pay the teaching of more English ones. Incase you hadn't noticed, India is booming and we ain't. It is no fun to be unemployed, especially if you are young and clever. Your assumption that he would stay here to sponge off of us is as silly as it is offensive.

Your suggestion that we advertise ourselves as a racist country is also rather potty. Have you any idea how many £billions we get from tourism?

/// if you do not think that walking up to a complete stranger and shooting them at point blank range through the head in an apparently motiveless murder is not a shocking incident ///

Of course i think this shooting is a shocking incident, as all such killings are.

But what I do question is the fact that this one in particular seems to have been given more attention than other such similar killings?

It seems to be almost on par with the Stephen Lawrence murder.
Face facts Gromit. They bring out a law to stop racism in this country but underneath the masses are rebelling against being dictated to.

Money is no substitute for a lack of life. Would you emigrate to a country where you are not wanted, I certainly wouldn't.
Shooting an innocent man in the head is rebelling?

That is sick.
Question Author
Of course shooting someone in the head is sick, but to some it could be a form of rebelling, since rebelling can take on numerous forms.

From protesting peacefully, to protesting violently ie rioting, to individual abuse of a person or persons, to the most severe killing of a person or person and onward to out and out civil war.

That is the politicians dilemma, that being not to create situations that may spark off any of these.

So when the IRA were blowing people up, were they murdering or rebelling?

I find it rather disturbing that some are going out of their way to make excuses for the people who committed this crime.
Question Author
Gromit

The answer regarding the IRA (yet another diversion) question is, 'both'.

/// I find it rather disturbing that some are going out of their way to make excuses for the people who committed this crime. ///

Don't be such a 'drama queen' Gromit, no one, (at least to my knowledge) are making excuses for the perpetrators of this crime.
// Wearing handcuffs, Kiaran Stapleton was brought into the dock and asked for his name.

He replied: "Psycho.

Psycho Stapleton." //

Yes as someone has already said, is a plea of insanity forthcoming?
Some very insidious remarks from usual quarters.

Also, nice to see the 'if it were the other way around' race card being played so early.

Where does this "If a black man kills a white man, it's not reported" nonsense come from, and why does it hold currency amongst right-wingers, when the evidence so clearly shows this not to be true?

How does killing innocent people get referred to as 'rebelling'?

What kind of mind equates rebelling with murder? If I had a beef with white people, would you refer it to as 'rebelling' if I randomsly shot a white lad in his face?

Silly statement.
