Any one had calls that claim to be from Microsoft? I get calls from a foreign/withheld number that claims that errors in my event log are going to crash the PC. The thing that made me suspicious was the fact that they wanted me to download a third party remote desktop to control my PC. Previously when I have contacted Microsoft with a software issue they ALWAYS use their own desktop control software.
Three of my customers have been hit by this scam, any website you are asked to visit write the URL down and report them to Microsoft I bet they will be interested in stopping this.
I just say "I'll hold the phone in front of my computer/typrewriter so you can have a closer look" then I leave them hanging on. They hang up after about 10 seconds
Yes, they do - they want to either get you to part with your money, or mess with your computer. The easiest way to shut them up is to tell them you haven't got a computer - another ABer did that recently - "you can't possibly see what's wrong with my computer, I don't have one" is a great way to get rid of them.
When so called Windows Support phone my Mother she tells them that she doesn't need double glazing as it was fitted last year, that seems to throw them somewhat.
Received one of these awhile ago, I explained that I was very busy but if they could leave me their number I'd phone them back later - they didn't go for it
