Is there any free and easy way I can send a fax from my computer to a local (Spanish) number without all the rigmarole of signing up anywhere!

What version of Windows do you have and does your pc have a built in data/fax modem (the thing you use to connect to dial up)

If you have XP and the modem, you can plug the modem in to your telephone line and fax directly from your pc
if this is an ongoing thing go ethel

if it's a one off - as long as you have a scanner

look at these

unfortunately they tend to be country specific - so unless someone knows you'll have yo look round
google something like "online free faxing"

Yes I have XP but my modem is already connected to telephone isn't it? I'm on adsl. Basically I want to test my separate phone/fax machine as it doesn't always work and I forget to send myself one when I'm out and thought if it was easy I could do it here at home.
You need to connect the old dial up data/fax modem to the telephone line - exactly as you did in the bad old days before broadband.

The fax uses the phone line, and the cost goes on your phone bill.

If you have got the modem and the correct cable, here's how:

Use free internet faxing.
