I've got the grid filled in and have the 16 thematic cells highlightened. However : "Clashes must be resolved, leaving real words (I've done that) so that an appropriate word reads down the grid"
I've got a word but it's only 4 letters long and only uses one of the clashes, the other clashes seem to be random. Have I got the right word? i.e. only four letters long?
Any help or confirmation appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Read down the grid, ONLY the cells with clashes, hence 7 letters!
Yes, you'll kick yourself! ;-)

Thanks Micky666
I'd found a tree!
Now I'm well & truely kicked
THanks again, have a Wonderful Christmas
& you! Hohoho! ;-)
I have the seven clashes but cannot fathom an an appropriate word that is read down the grid. Any help?
Ignore my last post as I've now worked out the appropriate word. Had malmag for 4d instead of malkin.

Now just have to highlight the so-called 3 similar words.
I'm probably being very dense (or hung over!!) but I have everything but 9D! Any help appreciated. I also have an answer for 43A but am having trouble justifying it! Fun puzzle so far though.
Hi Indy-trier,

9d is firenew
43a deys are old milkmaids (donkeys less "on" and "k")

I have completed the grid, have the clever vertical structure around the deliverer, but, at present, am at a loss to find the other three words to highlight. Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
The shapes are less complicated than you expect, ulysses100.
Does the seven letter down word need to be highlighted, or is it enough to have correctly resolved the clashes? I'm fairly new to these thematic puzzles, so am perhaps asking an obvious question!
I have highlighted just the 16 letters of the thematically placed items voulez-vous, it might be a bit confusing to do otherwise.
Thanks, Slaney. I shall do likewise. :-)
I think that I am trying too hard to see these final three words. Starting from an unch and ending at an adjacent cell suggests that the answers are "circular" but I cannot make out any synonyms to the central structure. A stronger hint perhaps ????
Squares and a rectangle Ulysses....................... along the bottom.
Thank you very much Voulez-vous : I have them all now, and not the words that I was thinking of at all !
Thank you Ulysses 100. Once you'd confirmed my 43A was right (and I'd returned fresh from finishing my Christmas shopping) it all clicked into place. A cute puzzle!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you clever people whose great tips have preserved my sanity this year!
