Hi, I am about to buy a kindle but dont know which one to buy, is the 3G worth the extra money or is the latest version wifi just as good. Also is there a good range of books available and what is the price range like compared to books, and are new books available straight away via the kindle or is there any delay from the paper version to the e version.
Thanks.

The Sony or the kindle, Ed?
especially "Swedish" ones.....
The kindle, sorry. I've only had a quick play with a Sony E-Reader.
I'll have to have a little play, once I have put down the etchings.

Have a good b-day dinner tonight and a good bottle of wine.....if that is a tipple.
I stand corrected. Amazon charges for emailing things to your kindle. I still maintain that for an extra £40 or whatever it is that the 3G one costs is worth the extra. It's much more convenient, and you can buy books anywhere and everywhere. I bought books on the beach in Lanzarote this year. I couldn't do that without the 3G.
I don't go to Lanzarote either...........
fairkatrina, exactly. It would be frustrating to run out of books on the beach, in the bath, on a mountain, in the jungle, on a boat, on a train or bus (not plane sadly).

"Amazon charges for emailing things to your kindle"

Does it really? Like the PDF conversion stuff? I didn't think this was the case at all? Can anyone else confirm?

You can buy a kindle anywhere . I bought mine in Comet. You don't have to pay Amazon to download any books either wifi or 3g apart from the price of the book but thousands are free. What is more you can get books from other sources like Gutenburg for free. Many books are designed for the kindle or can be converted to the kindle formet via Calibre. All free . When using 3G Amazon pays the provider. They make their money through the books they sell.
I bought the new light kindle recently. I wanted the Keyboard wi-fi version but distribution of this model has now been discontinued in UK, and whilst there were a few left at various distributers, they were rapidly sold. I have the non keyboard version and it is much easier to use than I had thought, as when buying books on the amazon site entering just a few letters automatically brings up lists, which narrow as further letters are entered, and I am quite happy to use the on-screen keyboard. Since the kindle has a large memory not being able to download books away from a Wi-Fi will not be a problem, as I will, and have already, download a number of books prior to any journey I make, especially if I go abroad. I believe the keyboard will only prove a necessity if large amounts of text entry is required.
A couple of things I forgot to mention. One problem I did have was when connecting up to my wireless network (wi-fi), which wasnt helped by not having a keyboard. I could not get it to connect and thouht that this was due to having a very lengthy encryption password on my wireless router. I kept reducing the length and at attemptinting to reconnect, but failed every time. I finally remembered that my router has the ability to limit what wireless networks can log onto my router, a security function, and that I have to designate these. I had already designated min and my wife's laptops, and our wireless printer. All I had to do was to add my new kindle. The other thing is, as many have already stated, books can be obtained from free to between £2 and £3. In addition, Amazon pick one book every day to be offered at a substantial reduction, the cost coming down to around 99p. I think you can sign on to get a warning email each day for the daily choice, but I tend to got to the Amazon site perioadically to see what is on offer. I then use my Kindle to download any I like.
