I'm not sure why so many people are asking for a specific budget, as I presume that as things are tight, you want to try to save as much as possible. So ::
Like someone else said, go into your local supermarket on Saurday afternoon this weekend and you should find plenty of bargains. I bought a big pack of smoked salmon last weekend in my Co-op, for only 85p ! I buy Pastrami for half price every week in this Co-op. You would think they wouldn't order in so much of the stuff if nobody is buying it but, no....its the same each week. Well more fool Co-op !
Xmas puddings can usually be had reasonably cheaply but why not make a really nice apple pie ? Put plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg in, perhaps a handful of sultanas as well. Can't afford brandy butter or cream ? Than make some custard....I can taste it already !
Make plenty of roast potatos and roast parsnips for the Xmas lunch. These are very cheap to buy and they just as nice as anything else on the plate !
Why not roast carrots and swedes as well ? These have to be the cheapest veg around. Get some of those small white turnips and roast them as well...they are wonderful and sweet and sadly neglected.
Don't even think about buying your veg ready cut and chopped. Keith Floyd, a personal hero of mine, always said that you should buy your veg with dried mud on, and he was right !
Personally I HATE sprouts but if you must have them, buy them untrimmed. Avoid the expensive ones that come with the stalk...what are you going to do with the stalk...eat it ?
There is nothing whatsoever wrong with frozen turkeys. If they are seasoned and cooked right, they will be very good value indeed. The best turkey I have ever cooked was a Butterball.
Buy supermarket own-brand chocolate bars. Tescos are very good and very inexpensive. Other supermarkets will be just as good, I'm sure. These can cost a third of the price of Cadburys ! They also make a Turkish Delight.
I have just bought a bottle of French Merlot in Lidl for £3.99. I've had it before and its everything a Merlot should be, very fruity and soft. Delicious drinking on its own and even nicer with a joint of beef. Its a bit too drinkable actually as it rarely last more than one meal
Talking of beef, buy cheaper joints and pot roast them, instead of roasting in the oven. The meat will be tender and very tasty. It will be the roast beef that you always dreamed of. Try it...its easy !
Make a Christmas cake, which will probably be cheaper than shop-bought.
There are loads of other money saving ways to enjoy Xmas, or any other day of the year come to think of it.
One last point, and this is one of my pet hates. Toilet cleaner. If you buy a supermarket own brand, its miles cheaper than one of the well-known ones, and it does the job in exactly the same way ! Its the fecking brush that does the work, not the stuff in the bottle ! Same goes for bleach. A friend of mine, who is always whinging about being short of cash, spends more money feeding her toilet than she does her kids !
