Hi, Just found out that my cat has broken her leg and we havent got any pet insurance. The vet bills are going to come to over 300. My boyfriend and I are only 21 and dont exactly earn much. Where could we get some help from, the RSPCA and CATS protection said they cant really help cos we arent on benefits, has anyone else been in the same situation but still been able to get some help with the bills.

cheers x

Have a look at the PDSA website and also the Blue Cross site
I had exactly the same situation with my cat,, she broke her leg at six months (she was an indoor cat at the time so god know how) and it had to be amputated, it cost me around 400. My vet was fantastic and I paid it off month by month 50 a month, if you ask your vet they may be able to do something similar for you
Only a suggestion, but here in the U.S., Veterinary schools will often take in injured animals to help train students. Here, one has to sign a release and hold-harmless form to absolve the school of any liability, but acquaintences who have done this have reported good results at no or minimum costs...

And when you've got her sorted, buy some insurance!!!

Mine only costs just over 6 per month and even though I have had no need to claim from it yet, I wouldn't be without it just in case anything happened. Like you, I certainly couldn't afford 300 in vets bills.

Although I am somewhat sympathetic to your situation, remember, it is your pet and therefore your responsibility.

Get the cat seen to asap, any vet will allow time to pay off a sum of that total.

Good luck to the cat...I hope all goes well!

It's a bit late to be thinking about insurence to cover this op I'm affraid no insurer will cover you for it but they will cover you for anything that happens to your cat 14 days after you take out the insurence. I found that sainburys are very good they will pay out a lot more that some other insurers do for around the same price as the other insurers each month and they insure for the life of the pet as well. :-)

The PDSA also requires you to be on housing tax benefit. basically if you own a pet and aren't on benefits but still dont earn enough your on your own with no help. its against the law not to treat your pet when they are ill but theres no help available to people who can't afford it its crazy. maybe you should talk to citizens advice bereau and think about getting your pet insured petline are the best bet as they will look after your pet for life like for instance if your pet developed diabetes. be careful when chosing insurance as most of them are only a twelve month thing and won't pay out for chronic complaints.
