Never had a problem with my DVD player before, but bought DVD of Bridesmaids and there is, it seems, no soundtrack on the film. The trailers etc are fine, and I can opt for actors' commentary or the version for those with sight problems where the sound is present on both, but not the standard (I think it is called 5.1) audio. Is it the DVD player, the DVD or me that is the problem?

Well, I'd try playing it on another device and if still no go- return for replacement.
My Almost Famous dvd is the same.. I can hear the adverts and the sound on the menu but when the film starts, nothing. I just need to go into audio options (on the dvd menu) and change it from Dolby Digital to the other one. I can't remember what the other option is exactly but there are only two.... on my dvd anyway.

Hope that helps =s lol x
is it ok when you play other dvd s?

I think the machine probably needs returning - I've tried switching the audio option but makes no difference. Have now phoned the company's help line, who said if it wasn't solved by switching audio options there probably is a problem with the player. Thanks for suggestions.
