Madeira cake ....yay google x
You can freeze virtually any cake - then decorate after defrosting
You're right Tinks, Madeira and I'd put jam in the middle just in case to keep it moist though I wouldn't keep it for longer than a week.
Pannetone and Russian kuhlich are good keepers, and can be spectacular. Whether you'd call them cakes - not sure, as they're yeasted.

You can ice them both.

gingerbread type cakes keep well as do the denser plain ones, a very rich sweet victoria sponge, sealed in icing will keep about 2 weeks in a cool place,,,
Any old cake, soak it in brandy ....
or rum....
Now you're talking. We have two rumtopfs going - one brandy, one rum. Frequent tastings are necessary....

Want to make some gingerbread hearts for the tree....but I think they will be nibbled
Try a Madeira cake - it forms the basis of a Tunis cake, the top of it has a thick chocolate ganache with small fruits made out of marzipan. It usually pops up in the stores this time of year
