Nissan X trail 2005 fitting running boards / side steps

I have recently purchased some side step running boards for my 2005 x trail, however they have not come with any instructions. I have tried to fit them however they appear to need holes drilling in the car and i don't feel that this is appropriate and that they should just bolt on in the already prepared holes.

Any advice, guidance or website with a diagram or fitting manual would be very much appreciated.
