What is the normal amount of platelets in the blood.My husband couldn`t have chemo as his were below 100 so just wondered what they should be .Many Thanks for answers

I think that you mean 100,000 which IS low.

Normal is about 150,000 to 400,000

Thanks Squad guess I must have mis heard as I thought the nurse said his were 99 and he can`t have chemo if they are below 100.
I do not think you got it wrong as it depends on how they are printed on the form. We used to use the numbers 100 I think it meant 100 000 in reality. Though I cannot remember what the normal amount is.

They do convert down for ease of reporting.... we would get patients on this basis with a platelet count reported as 1 all I can say it had to work pretty hard...
Usually given in values x 10 to the 9th/l now Sqad.
As you say, normal range is 150-400.

Thanks everyone he was back up for the last treatment so I guess it will alter now and again which is why they check before each session.
well im glad i came back to this op, ive only ever used/seen platelet counts in the hundreds !
