Do any airlines offer a discounted flight if you need to suddenly travel due to bereavement? I mean we'd obviously Show A death cert etc? I guess not but here's hoping.we have a family member in south Africa (mum in law) who we've been told will likely pass away "soonish" the flights are horrendously expensive but bviously my husband will need to go over .

Sadly - I think not.

unlikely. But look on skyscanner etc for fare bargains.
When my sister found herself in a similar situation in Australia (our father was dying here) , she found Qantas very helpful in arranging flights, etc at very short notice.
I'm not too sure about discounts, though.
I think it would be worth explaining the situation to them and asking what they could do...never hurts to ask.
years ago certain american domestic companies did! but never internationally! shouldn't he go when she is alive? xx

Thanks for answers all. Yes I kinda knew it was a LNG shot...airlines are a business not a charity. But was just looking got a way to ease thr financial burden (flights asap apptox £1000!!!) for my hub ... I can't ease emotional burden.
Actually, bereavement (also called compassion fares) are quite common here in the U.S. and I'd be surprised (I'm in the aviation industry) if European and British carriers didn't offer them as well.

There are some caveats, of course. And one wants to compare them to all other available fares, since, often, the discount is based on a full fare, which no one buys anymore.... But be sure to inquire, at least...

Best of luck!
Some airlines do compassionate fares. They don`t advertise it though. You will have to approach the airline.
in fact leave in a week and it's £513
