I was downloading some photos from my camera's SD card onto my laptop and thought I had copied all the files. However I found that some images were missing. I put the card back into the slot only to get the message that I need to format the Disk in drive D before I can use it.
It has become corrupted. Is there anything I can do to recover the missing images?

Does it still work when you put it back into your camera?

No Flobadob, It says 'Card Error'
Try cancelling the error message if poss .. and try Recuva software to see what it can find (and recover)
it happened to me the other other day, somehow, i reinserted the sd cards back in, and look into other posibbilities on other folders (on the sd card) if some of your pictures might be in one of the folder, for example video, music, dcim..just try to open any of those incase your pics are hidden in some of the folders

In either the camera or my laptop I can only get a message saying I should reformat the disk. I can't get further than that.
My daughter also says try RECUVA software as AlBags has already suggested, works well apparently.

Does that mean that I have to format the card first? This will delete everything on the card. If I don't then there is no way that I can see to get into the card.
Don't format anything .. not until you know you cannot recover anything.

Well, the last thing I want to do is format the card and lose the images, but I've also been looking elsewhere on the internet with no resolution to my problem.
Well you may have lost them anyway .. might as well face up to that.
Unfortunately, solid state memory is not completely reliable. Best way (like I do, is to replace cars/pens every year if used quite a bit) That may help.
A corrupted file tho can ruin the file table/format on the drive so it can't be read.
Another way is to keep another 3.5 SATA or standard HDD, and plug in when needed .. either as an internal drive or add-on caddy/USB drive (NOT a laptop 2.5 drive tho)
When a file is deleted it is not the file that is removed but the bridge that connects it to the computer/camera etc.

Therefore DO NOT write anything else to the card because it may overwrite your lost pics.

Follow previous advice and get hold of some recovery software.

I have recovery software but the card cannot be read in its present state. So how can I use it?
