Seller Sent Out An Already Faulty Laptop! - What Should I Do?

I bought a refurbished 'like new' laptop from an Amazon store for £625

I like it and am happy over all, no other issues so far - except, it has two fans and pretty soon after receipt, the video card fan began to make a weird whirring pulsating whizzing noise occasionally - it sounded like it was struggling to spin, it wasnt good.

i contacted them about it and they said theyd send me a new fan to fit myself.
they wanted proof of fault after diagnostics - which i got - sometimes the fan came back as fine, then it came back as faulty again

This leads me to think the issue may not be the fan itself, but something else perhaps making it intermittent ...?? is that likely?

they didnt send the fan, they seem to be a bit crap at dealing with the issue, forgetting what i've said, repeating themselves, etc.to

then they offered me to either send it back and the'd fix it, or they'd send me £30 and i was to buy a fan and fit myself (fitted fans and other stuff before i am more than capable of fitting it)

However today, in the bios etc - i have found loads of error messages about the faulty fan ... starting in 2017 ...
then more fan errors in 2019 - only a few weeks before they sent it to me!

im really *** off - they KNEW it was faulty before they even sent it!
and presumably they know that without a fan other things can become damaged with overheating!
for the cost of a fan, they were happy to take the £625 and have it break down in the future and do nothing!

i received it 25th june, and they even said my warranty is up already, but they will help me as i reported it after only a month.

I dont know what to do now - if i accept the £30 i am accepting responsibility and their 'remedy' right? if it goes again, i cant blame them, they will say i havent fitted it properly or something.

i am loathe to send it back to them to be fixed - i just dont trust them to do it properly - theyve had years to replace it!

i'm also thinking - could i insist on a replacement machine - or a refund?
the fact i can prove it was faulty when it arrived means my Legal warranty is still in effect, so i would be entitled - is that right?

im not so sure i trust them to replace it with decent machine, as i now have found out they're not actually a cimputer company - they just sell various items, so i suspect this is just one fo the bosses old laptops he sold on, rather than something they buy in, to refurbish - so i am thinking about getting a full refund and purchasing another one elsewhere from another company.

i am concerned that if they couldnt manage to sort a fan after all that time, what else is on its last legs inside?
what else has been patched up, bodged etc, and what damage could the lack of fan have done after all these months?
is the video card about to pack up now?

if i just leave it and end up with failures later it will be too late

can anyone advise on my rights here?

and what i shoudl do and say to them - i havent said anything to them yet.
i want to go in armed with the law etc.

thank you

Joko when did you purchase it? Was it sold with any warranty?
The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 apply.

Ive just spoken to amazon, they sent a return request, and they say they will ensure i get a refund, considering the bios evidence etc.

fingers crossed they will just accept the request.

im really disappointed as really happy with it other than the fan
joko 6and two 3's then, if you are happy and able to fit FOC fan then why not do that, you can clear bios.

because as i said above, i dont know if the lack of working fan has caused any other issues - its had this non-functioning fan since 2017! and i dont know what else they have been crap about...

Supposed to have been refurbished by their tech team, but turns out they couldnt even manage to sort a very basic replacement, despite diagnostic flagging it up numerous times, the noise it makes etc so i dont really trust their skills at refurbishing.

i am considering it though, but i dont want to wish i hadnt in a few months. im looking into ways to test components maybe more than the system diagnostics
A lot to read. Does the fan only come on when the card needs it ? Could it be that it's a noisy fan model that is otherwise coming on correctly ?
