I have the friend from the middle east who is not a UK citizen, but wants to be, so cut a long story short, he goes and marries girl from the same country but who is a UK citizen, but he marries her under false pretences just to get into the country. So, for about 3 years since they have been married, he cheats, she takes him back and so fourth. I keep telling him that he really needs to give this up and go back to his own country (god only knows why he is here when back home he would live a far better life) and that if she finds out he married her under this false pretence, she could potentially screw him through the divorce courts aswell making his life even worse here... Can anyone give me some examples on what a person can do by going through divorce courts like this, especially knowing that he has cheated her in so many ways, i need to frighten him big time...

This isn't my field at all, but if the authorities find out that your friend is here under a marriage of convenience, they will take steps to deport him.
divorce settlements in this country do not take into account who's fault it was or who cheated etc. the only marrying her to get in the country thing also wont make any doifference, cause all he's got to say is "no i didn't"
bednobs, won't it make a difference that the marriage is of convenience? We hear often in the papers about people getting into trouble when they get caught out.
but how will he get caught? She dosen't know, so she's not going to do anything about it If someone says to him "is this a marriage of convenience" he will just say "no, i love her, we've been married 3 years"
I see what you mean - I'd read it that the woman realised why he'd married her.
She could sue him in the Court and not only that but stop him forever from entering the U.K. If I were your friend I would divorce her and go back to the middle east and not come back
I think she would be in just as much trouble, if not more. If they married under false pretences, why all the fuss about "cheating"? Was it a real marriage or what?
