Has anyone used a steam cleaner to clean carpets? Was it any good? Are they worth buying (given the cost of a reasonable sized one @ approx 300)

much cheaper just to rent one when we had a pub we used a RUG DOCTOR (they hire them out in B&Q Asda all sorts of places

we used it a couple off times a year and it always got the beer stains out - carpets came up like new

you can hire them from dry cleaners too. i only paid approx 20 quid for one day. it worked a treat!!
I have had an earlex steamer for 4 years. It is an ugly plastic box with a hose and a set of steamers, but it is very good. It does carpets, steams wall paper, sanitieses, defrosts, even gets rid of artex.
it has got rid of 30yrs of grease from a cooker wall. yes I think its wonderful.
it is about 50 from Screwfix and Argos, much cheaper than some of the posh ones.Possibly not as good as a Rug Doctor but it does so much more .
Good Luck
