K.I.T.T. which stood for Knight industries two thousand if i remember rightly.

sft42 is spot on. And KITT's predecessor/evil twin, as driven by Michael's double (Garth), was called KARR, the Knight Automated Roving Robot.

Sorry Spiky, but Garth drove Goliath - an armoured juggernaut. KARR was stolen from its warehouse by petty thieves and then decided to function without humans.
