Hve had three blokes around to quote for fitting a new boiler (removing e o,d back boil thing & gas fire) and installing a combi boiler. Asked each of them how long it would take (important to me) - one said at least five days, one said 2 1/2 days and the last one said 1 day, how can they all be so different?

Even with two guys, one day sounds a bit optimistic. .............. hard to say without seeing it. Five days sounds a tad leisurely.

Thanks for that - and sorry for the terrible typos^.
The guy who offered to do it in a day is just quoting the minimum possible time in order to get the work.

The guy who offered to do it in 2½ days hasn't got a clue as to how long it will take, but he thinks that by putting the precise 'half' on the end of his quote you'll be fooled into thinking that he's an expert.

The guy who quoted 5 days is either
(a) inefficient ; or
(b) madly in love with you (and wanting to spend as much time as possible in your company!)

Five day bloke is the one who condemned it in the first place and is soooo pernickety (although I appreciate his is trying to do his job properly). He would drive me bonkers being here for five days (and I think thing 1 and thing 2 would drive him bonkers). I will just have to wait and see how much they all quote for and who can do it soonest.
When we had ours changed a couple of years ago, in a 2 bedroom bungalow it took a plumber and his mate three days to do the job and a couple of hours on the fourth day just to finish tidying up make quick check for leaks and everything was OK as well as making sure knew how to set the programmer
About 8 years ago, my boss had his combi-boiler replaced in a day. The guy charged him a total of £1,400 for the job. My boss reckoned that the installer bought the boiler for around £800 and made £600 for the days’ work.

Hi Hymie - I have no problem with that, the bloke probably doesn't work every day and has overheads to pay.
Forgot to add that that was for the removal of all the old pipework cylinder tanks and back boiler and replacement with new radiators and combi boiler

Hi Paddywak - no new radiators needed but taking out all of the old stuff (when that's done I am going to get my lovely wood burner in the hole left by the fire - can't wait (have free range as my husband installs them so it's not going to be retail price and won't have to pay to have it installed)).
had my heating updated last week. New combi boiler, 7 rads, old solid fuel rayburn removed and a multi fuel stove fitted. It took 2 workmen and 2 apprentices 4 days.
