pre-prepare mussels

i have washed and de-bearded some mussels for tomorrow's tea. Do i just leave them in the fridge as they are, or should they be submerged in water?

i rang morrisons and they said they give 2 days for their mussels. That's why we had them.
I only cooked the ones that were tightly closed. I didn't bother tapping the open ones - just thew them away.
