There isn't really any such thing any more.It used to be that all local authorities had a register that you signed, you had to have a letter from your doctor to say you were disabled. That was done away with by most authorities in 1995 when the disability discrimination act came into force.
I receive Disability Living Allowance and Incapacity Benefit and when I have to fill in any of the forms I just tick yes when it says are you registered disabled and put my National Insurance number as the reference. daffy is correct it used to be you had to be registered with your local council but they no longer do this.

ah i see, there really is no info is there on this...

i am severely mobility restricted thanks to a problem with my back, this also effects my left side, and it has been such a truggle to get any info as to what im entitled to, how to get it. the only thing i keep being told by the job centre is i must attend a return to work interview which is a joke as i cant stand lol.

thank you both for your help, any advice is always greatly recieved

xx
tweeny, I'm sure you can get medical evidence to back up your disability. the DWP can send you to see one one of their appointed doctor's if necessary.
It might be worth arranging a visit to your local citizens advice bureau tweenyb.Ask them to help you apply for the forms for DLA and any other benefits you may be entitled to,they will also help you to fill in the forms when they arrive.

if tweeny can't stand or go to a return to work interview, then i would guess she wont be able to go to the CAB either. Call the benefits enquiry line for people with disabilities on 0800 882 200 tell them what is happenng to you and they will be able to give you advice abut what benefits apply

And to re-iterate the above, there is no such thing as registered disabled
CAB will also arrange home visits for the housebound.I would still advise a call to them as they are an unbiased agency.
A man from the CAB came to my home and helped me fill in the claim form for Disability Living Allowance. They will always come to you if you need. If I were you tweeny I would contact them and see your GP for help. You don't say what is causing your problems but if you are having hospital treatment, which I am, you can also get help from your Consultant or Specialist.
As Dafffy & Jan suggest try the CAB. untill I had my stroke I'd always worked & I'd no idea how to go about claiming. The CAB were brilliant and sorted everything for me even arranging for a very helpful young lady to come out to the house to explain everything & fill out the forms for me
Thank you very much. I'll just use the letters from my GP and neurologist as proof then, and hope for the best.
