American car rear lights

I have an american car that has brake/indicator as the same bulb. As the car was built after 1965 this is an mot failure. How can it be made legal whilst obviously not altering the classic looks.

i had 1978ford fairmont with the lights the same as yours if the car was manufactured before july 1978 and you can prove it to the dvla it does not need type approval therefore it should not be a mot failure get in touch with the dvla and ask them about type approval
