I'm rubbish @ facebook & do not understand it really! But if I wanted to send a message to someone on there will it appear on their "wall" for all & sundry to read? Or is there a private way of sending a message?

you can do either. either go to their profile to write on their wall (public) or go to the icon that looks like a speech bubble on the top left of your profile and pick the person you want to send to (private)
I dont know what people do on Facebook, I dont even know what people see in Facebook.

Thanks for that Bednobs. Can I just clarify, do you mean where it says "facebook" on the far left, then next to that are 3 icons. The middle one being the speech bubble.
If I click on send a new message, type the persons name to whom I wish to send a message, then type the message. Tick "send to mobile" ?? How will this person know that they have rec'd a message? How do they reply? Tha's if they want to?
Yes it will be public - the only way you can be private is to use the private chat function at the bottom of the page (that's what I do), but I think you can only do that when they are on line themselves. Even then I wouldn't be 100% sure that it's 100% private.
not true boxy - you can send private messages via the way i described above. Not sure what send to mobile means tho. I just press "send a new message"
ps they probably have text messaging set up - if you"send to mobile" it probably sends them a text
Sending some a message, as opposed to writing on their wall, is private
bednobs is right, you can send private messages to friends on FB when they are offline, they can pick them up and reply when they login, they don't need to posted on their wall if you'd rather that they were private!......
