Ahhh but if you want something for a moaner/misery/half empty type of guy I have the perfect website.

It's clled Despair.com http://www.despair.com as takes the micky out of the motivational products. Have a look. Each year I get my clients a personal calendar but they also do mugs, coasters, t-shirts etc.

I am sure there is a 'saying' that will suit him down to the ground.
