Okay another problem, my lp keeps shutting down, instantaneously no messing just a black screen and gone. Have seen a local IT expert (we call the mad russian because she is, with minis up to her arm pits and hemlnes well i don't know where ! to add insult to injury she is the same age as me, but hav ing paid £70 and find the problemis still happening, also having bought a cooling pad with fans to coo lp down, I don't know what to do. Laptop has shut down 4 times so far ton ight an I am getting p'd off with it, help please.

I may be wrong Carandrog, but there is a Button battery within the laptop, depending on the age of the unit it may need replacing! no doubt I will be told if I'm wrong.

A little general chit chat is friendly, or supposed to be unless folk start judging and criticising, and both sides seem to want to do.

My advice, if the ehow page doesn't help, is to try a local service centre for the make/model in preference to an individual you happen to know. No guarantee of improved investigation obviously, but at least you'll have tried a recognised service centre and know if it is time to give up and buy a new one.

This "mad Russian" sounds more like a con-artist than an IT expert. 70 quid for nothing? You'd be better off buying a new laptop than spending all this money on cooling pads and Soviet grifters.
