im not a fan of the shows format, but I do enjoy looking at the details and facts that were gleaned.

I was amazed at all the old documents that they used - I am sure an amateur wouldn't get access to one that detailed the forced emigration of Jews from Oran in 17th century.
Amazed that June Bown is still alive at 84 considering the length and quantity of the cigarettes she smoked!!

I didn't think that much of last nights one, so much so I started to do the crossword. I was however, completely in awe of June Brown, 84 years old, still working and she certainly isn't an advert for the No Smoking campaign.

I agree with most of you - wasn't paying 100% attention (and I usually do) and I guess this was because I wasn't entirely gripped .... June was fab, glad she didn't end up in a sad and emotional place (a la Jerry Springer) and thought it was unrealistic to give the impression so many obscure documents might be available to Joe Public. My family are all England, Wales and Ireland and it's taken me 6 years to get back to 1701 (on ONE surname) and now am stuck!!!

I fell asleep half way through it. My mother said she was talking to her cousin and they said how we all would love to have the resources at our disposal that the subjects of that programme have. It wasn`t the most exciting episode I have seen but it was enjoyable. I was taken with how youthful June Brown is.

Have you tried Rootschat echokilo? I have found them very helpful when I am stuck. It is amazing that you can go back to 17thc with one part of the family and 1881 with the other!

I love June Brown too but like some other posters I lost interest in this episode. I'd rather have seen her talk about herself for an hour she's an amazing woman.

I quite enjoyed it, I think June Brown is a very good actress, and I was surprised to learn of her true age. I loved the bit with the sunflower on her great, great, great grandmother's grave (I may have the wrong amount of "greats! there, but I know it was quite a way back!) Looking forward to seeing more of these - anyone know who's on next week ?

I was amazed at how much pre-recording research must have gone into the June Brown episode, it was specialised and complex, combining quite rare archive material not as usual as most research and also quite abit of translation, though the link from the Oran expulsion records to the Italian connection with Amsterdam was definately more a 'possible' or 'probable' than factual with supporting primary source evidence,

Agree with you Dotty (and others) I think the laptop and sofa is a much more rewarding type of genealogy!
