We decided to get rid of our large garden pond. Its about 14 by 10 feet and over 3 ft deep. Managed to sell the fish 28 6 - 8 inches and 30= babies, filter, pump and ultra violet light. Drained pond down to about 4" when pump wouldn't take anymore. Decided to puncture liner and let it drain down. Found 3 4" fish and 53 babies thumb nail size. Guess who had to get in the pond - me. OH couldn't find his wellies but found mine! ! So I got in, punctured liner in several places then discovered 3 layers of carpets under liner so had to rip all of it out, it took hours to do it. Dropped a rock on my foot, how do you know if little toe is broken, very sore and black and throbbing? Water eventually drained down leaving loads of evil stagnent mud, so I filled umpteen buckets with it and emptied down the valley spare land at the back of the house. Now the hard work starts, we have to demolish walls, shelves beds and landscape it and turn it into a seating area, but not all at once. Fell asleep for 1.5 hours after another shower, I was so muddy and evil smelling, still another good days work but boy will I be stiff tomorrow.

Ouch and ouch, poor you and I don't envy you the work. As for a broken toe, usually a lot more pain than just sore but keep an eye on it if no better in a few days and you are concerned, pop into A & E (as if it's that easy lol). Hope all goes well for the rest of the job, take care though and be brave!!
Wow I am exhausted just reading that Caran, take care now.

Thanks Daisy and Mamya. If it is broken what would they do, I can't imagine splint on little toe!
They sometimes just put a flexible plaster "strap" on it depends where's it broken that's all they do and you just have to be careful with walking on it. OH broke two of his toes at different times without knowing because he has neuropathy but eventually they healed, takes longer if you have bad circulation but nothing major if not.

Thanks Daisya
sorry about the toe Caran sounds painful I think all they do is strap it to the next one, but carry on the good work with the pond and I know what you mean by the evil smell but in the end when you are sitting in your new seating area you will be able to look back and smile [says she hopefully !] your doing a grand job.

Sounds like much too much like hard work in this heat, I have broken my little toe before, I knew it was broken as it felt different and flapped a bit and the pain was more than throbbing and continued for a lot longer than throbbing would. sorry that probably doesn't help, but I can describe it any better! All they did in hospital was strapped it to the next one, so something you could do at home and save the 4+ hours in A & E :)
'Sister's are doing it for themselves'!!! .. so the song goes! Me too ... thinning out hedging, left with enough to fill a skip! Scratches on my arms ... Just think of all those calories burnt though! May have a little wine tonight! :0)
