Hi all,

I'm organizing a one off event at a hotel with 14 people (It's a Ghost hunt) I have been asked by the Hotelier to organize my own insurance and have come researched what type I need and have come to the conclusion that it's Public Liability Insurance I need.

I would like to ask if I'm missing something? I Have no equipment, I am not employing anyone, there is no dangerous or physical activities going on etc....

Thank all :0)

I'd ring up an insurance company and explain what the event entails and see what they suggest ............you don't have to follow up on it.
I think it's best to have insurance just in case someone decides to sue you for something obscure (like 'they' do). I think it would be public liability.

Thank you, it's been tricky to find an insurance company who will deal with me as they only every really deal with corporate clients.

Also the quote I asked for was the lowest I could which was up to £1Million, surely this is enough. What accident/damage could we have that would equate to that amount of money!

As the leader of the group, I will be making my own disclaimer that I wont be responcible for broken torches, lost cameras etc....

*****responsible (sorry typo)
A ghost hunt but no equipment? Cameras, digital recorders, movement detectors etc?
I don't think it matters if you have a disclaimer, I think you could still be sued.
Check your hosue insurance - it may cover you for public liability, although even if it does you'd need to check with your insurer whether it would cover you for this event
our team dont have imsurance but thats because we trust each other and dont take public along without them signing disclaimers.

But you say there are no dangerous activities. it only takes one person to get over sensitive, a small noise, and there can be some major problems. I have been trampled by one person getting scared in the dark and desperate to get out.
Speak to your local Insurance Broker and have them research any requirements you may need. If necessary they should come up with with a suitable policy.

Thanks all for your advice.

We don't have any equipment as we are a new group and will be using personal equipment already insured as part of our own house insurance. The insurance company doesn't want to know about those as they were not purchased as part of the 'company' - what drivel!

Also I have never taken out insurance before for this, but the Hotelier have asked me too, I trust my group and have worked with them before (as part of another group).

redcrx - yes, I was thinking this, but the insurance company doesn't have a box for that type of thing. I've never found finding insurance so complicated and I really begrudge doing it as all those who are coming are all friends of mine.

I think the hotelier are being a bit jobsworth asking me for all this, but I guess they are safeguarding themselves!
