I want to print photographs of size 8x6 but this is not an option on my printer. Anyone with an idea of how to achieve this? I would be most grateful. Thanks in anticipation

At the very bottom of the 'Page Size' drop down list, you should see 'Custom'. Click on it and a box will open, enabling you to enter the dimension of the paper you wish to print on.

Thanks but this does not work as there is no "custom" when using photographic paper.
Well you've certainly got me confused/ I've just checked with my Canon Pixma printer and the option is definitely there!

Load the picture up into any image viewing program, such as the excellent Irfanview:
http://www.irfanview.com/
Press Ctrl-P, then click on Printer Setup.
Click 'Properties'
With the 'Main tab selected, set the 'Media type' to 'Glossy Photo' (or whatever is appropriate for you).
Click the 'Page Setup' tab and then in the 'Page Size' field.
'Custom' should definitely be there!
