I'm afraid that there is no way (unless you can find newspaper articles) for you to confirm that your neighbour is a convicted rapist.

You, presently, have *no* right of notification that he is a rapist from any quarter.

But, at the risk of being misunderstood, whilst he may be a rapist, unless his was a violent offence, your daughter will probably be no more vulnerable with him living there.

Dreadful for the accused if they aren't the person concerned, difficult subject this as sometimes it can cause vigilante groups to hound (or worse) the wrong person out.

If you heard it via gossip, gazza44 then be careful who you repeat it to, a friend of mine got herself in real bother by being in a similar situation, only to find it wasnt true and she had unwittingly slandered.

ok, serious reply....

Unless your 13 year old usually wanders into neighbours houses without you being aware I genuinely wouldn't worry THAT much about it. As long as she knows that doing that, regardless of whether they have a criminal conviction or not, is a definite no no without you knowing, you (and her) will be ok.

If he has indeed been convicted of rape, he will be on the Sex Offenders Register. Even after he has served his sentence, there are usually reporting conditions (depending on the actual offence he was convicted of) and often multi agency involvement and monitoring.

There is some more information here:-

so you can do what? sneer? gossip? throw rotten fruit at him? this is exactly why they dont notify neighbours.

whilst i agree itd be nice to know these things - id want to know - there are too many cases of vigilante justice, lynch mob rule and mistaken identity for these things to be known openly.

how did you find out? gossip?
Afternoon Gazza44, my apologies for the following (directed at those who think that it's okay to have a giggle on a Law thread):

This is the Law section, you can see it says on the left hand side, in the URL, and in the title of the page. Please avoid commenting if you have nothing of value to add - ESPECIALLY if you're only going to add a valueless comment about another valueless comment. Bite your bloody tongues or be helpful.

As always, please apply the rule of "if you don't know the answer, don't post" to all sections outside of Law (and maybe B&S as we're never really sure about matters of the heart are we?).

Thanks, I'll be pruning back this thread shortly.
gazza, I can understand your worries but even if true his crime may have been rape of his long term partner because she said 'no' half way through and he didn't stop; rape of a man; date rape....

Being convicted of rape does not automatically mean he is violent or sexually interested in under age girls.

How long have you been living next door to this man?
