Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but not sure where to put it. I would like to know how deep the Panama Canal is, as had heard it was dug too shallow. I heard a figure of 28 feet, 6 inches, and that is not deep enough for large ships to navigate.

Is this correct, and where can I learn more about the Panama Canal?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

There is an excellent book called "The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914" by David McCullough. Well worth reading.
The minimum depth is 41 ft (12.5 m).
