I was named on my mothers car insurance policy which was voided a few years ago. I now wish to buy and insure a car in my name. Insurers ask if you have every had a policy declined, cancelled, special terms applied etc. Do I need to answer yes to this question as the policy was not in my name?

No because It was not your Policy it was your mothers and you was an additional name on her policy.
I think it may not necessarily be that simple- e.g. if you were the reason it was voided. Can you clarify the circumstances of the voiding f us?
Just say no.
