How to respond to an old friend requesting to catch up.......

when you have no desire to see them again but dont want to cause offence! Someone has recently got in touch with me and its been over 10yrs since we were 'friends'. I am really busy anyway through the day with working full time and dont fancy a night out with a stranger either!

I caught up with someone via email - we exchanged a couple of emails then it just all tailed off. How did this person get in touch wtih you?

Is it via Facebook? If you haven't seen them for ten years, then it's highly unlikely you will see them any time soon.
If it were me, I'd block them!

I wouldn't answer their texts/calls/emails/FB requests. Job done. I won't know if I caused offence as I won't be responding to them so reckon I'll sleep easily.

Perhaps you could say that it is nice to hear from them, but you are up to the eyes in it at the moment and literally can't spare a minute, but perhaps in the future you could arrange something. They will most probably not turn up again for another 10+ years.

No it's not a person of the opposite sex hee hee! It's via FB yes. Knew I shouldnt have joined for that bloody reason lol. I did consider ignoring them but the message gets sent to my email too so I think she would know I was being ignorant and that makes me feel guilty.

So be ignorant and ignore them. That's what I would do if I did not want to renew the 'friendship'.

I had someone I didn't want, keep pleading to me to accept them. In the end I sent her a message saying sorry, I only use FB for family photos, don't be offended but I'm not going to accept you. She was a bit miffed but I heard no more about it after that.

I know exactly how you feel. An old school friend of mine recently contacted me, asking if I wanted to go for a night out. To be polite, I just said yes and that we would organise it soon.
She hasn't stopped messaging me since, and I have no desire to go out with her.
I'm not a very sociable person and certainly don't want to be hooking up with people I haven't seen for nearly 15 years!
Seriously, just delete and block her. I know it sounds really harsh, but at least you won't have to keep coming up with excuses.

would not respond, it rarely works out. One old friend, and i say that loosely contacted me, and i am still not sure why. This person caused me undue problems, so not fussed that we haven't kept in touch.

A friend told me a few months ago that you dont have to do anything you dont want to do. She is correct. How I wish someone had told me that years ago.

I've got in touch with loads of old friends through FB and haven't regretted any of them! Due to my ex being very possessive, I lost touch with most of my good friends for a long time. They have now moved all over the world but we all keep in regular contact and I've met up with one I hadn't seen in 20 years last year and am hoping to catch up with another soon. I suppose it depends on the friend though - I have ignored requests from other folk.

like others an old school friend got in touch from Friends United luckily she lives in the USA, we were never close at school, after a few e mails it just petered out because we didnt have much to say to each other.Be honest say its not possible to meet up at present time but will be in touch late in the year.
