So no law change about emissions etc
There are changes to the emmissions zone in London - I got a letter telling me I'd be fined/charged if I took my '97 defender into the Greater London area after June (I think it was this year)

This might be the origin of what you've heard - If like me you have no intention of doing so I wouldn't worry about it.

If you live in London I'd investigate further
if it's over 2.5tons then yes the new London LEZ rules might effect you (but only if you want to drive it round London)

But you won't have to change the engine (!) you'd probably just need to get a filter fitted to the exhaust.
Think you may have your dates wrong, Jake... well unless your defender weighs over 3.5tons.
