Noticed in remote areas like J O'groats , Lands End there are unnamed roads which just have at best a A number or nothing. What puzzles me is that these roads still have houses with residents - so how would you find postal addreses for roads with no names?
And why arn't these roads named?

Maybe they have a PO box number and then collect their post from the nearest post office as post service may not deliver out of the way in certain places.Just like the people who live on canal boats, they have a box at a certain place along side the canal and have to go to it to collect their post!
Surprisingly the postie knows who lives where, it is called living in a small community.
Same with farms. For several farms round our way, the post code is actually that of a local Post Office where they can go and collect their mail. This causes no end of confusion when someone on such a farm wants to order something by telephone. ''Street number and post code?'' the seller invariably asks. ''There's no street number - it's a farm.'' The seller checks the postcode on their computer and finds it refers to a town centre. How can a farm be in a town? The result is a lengthy explanation with the seller. Much to the frustration of the buyer, it's been known for a seller to refuse an order. because of the apparent anomality with the address!!

My sister lives in a remote area in Cornwall. Her road has no road name so the address is just the name of her house, followed by the village and the nearest town.

I hate to see the problems these "ghost addresses" would cause for home and car insurance !
Even if there are no streets or house numbers, there are generally hamlets which do have postcodes and the postman knows all the residents. I lived in a remote island area and there were never any problems with postal or other deliveries.

Postcodes have made it possible to find a house in a village without a street name. My childhood village had no street names and our postman knew everybody by name. Nowadys the postcode is enough to get the letter to the correct address, providing the house name in on the envelope.
Agree with Trim - my mother lives in a remote area - pull up he post code and there are only a small handful of houses - doesnt take a genius in the Insurance Co to work out which house she is in! But then she uses a local Mutual who are used to Lands End and remote communties. Guess the folk who work in the AA insurance have a lower IQ.
