Sorry, I thought traipse was a Scottish word.
Yes according to a Scots dictionary TRAIPSE would appear to fit the bill.
I went for 'traipse' but I don't think it's a Scottish word. Couldn't find it in my Scots dictionaries.
I thought it was Scottish but Chambers gives 'origin unknown'
