I've donated my brain to an Alzheimer's research project in Manchester.
They need normal brains for comparison, and I'll get an occasional checkup.

My loving family's reaction -

So why do you think you're normal?
Well, it's a good idea, you've never used it!
They can have it now, nobody will notice.

Any better ideas?

My family would probably say the same but I didn;'t know that they knew you - lol
Seriously, my BIL has Alzheimers and my MIL died having suffered for a number of years with it, so any research that is done and can help others has my support.
Hmm... ''Are they going to check theres one there?''
I've always been an organ donor and said that they can have whatever they want but not my brain. My grandad has dementia now and I am reconsidering this stance although i do feel quite strongly about it. How did you find out about and get on the list for this?

Hi china doll - this is the Manchester project, but there may be other places in the country.

For organ donation in general, any GP practice or hospital will have the info.

As I said in the funeral party thread I'm considering donating my body to science after all when I'm done with it it's only a few stone of fat, meat and bone and if somebody can find a use for it good for them. I've always been in the donor system both blood and organ, one of my main regrets since having a stroke is that I can't give blood and I truly believe that if you expect something out of a system you should be prepared to give a little back. Well done venator and well done all you other donors
Thank you :c)
You can sign up for whole body donation at teaching hospitals, where the trainee doctors get given a 'body' to practice on. Thats where I am going, and after three years they cremate you and offer the ashes back to the family or put them in a wheelie bin if not wanted. (I made the last bit up lol).
I'm the donor list but would like to donate my whole kit and caboodle for any research.

My Mum had alheimers and heart disease, my dad and his brothers had cancer below the waist.

I'd like them to find out if any genetical investigation could help others
