Can N Power do this??

I got a bill in the other day saying i was £236 in credit with my electric.

I rang them up and requested for the credit to be posted to me in a cheque, but they said they can only send me £59.08p. They said this is because the other money is for my next few months bills, even tough i pay via direct debit each month.

Is this right, or should i be able to request the lot.

I always got a refund from British Gas (til the prices went up and now I'm always in debit!), never had a problem. They paid it straight back into my bank account. Surely, legally it's your money, why should you pay that far in advance for something you haven't used yet.

I had no end of problems with npower, including rude staff and the fact that I received a horrendous bill because it turned out that they hadn't read my meter for a year. I was not able to read it myself due to an injury I had sustained, but they were insisting that I did. Vile people. I switched to Southern Electric, one of the greener ones, and never looked back!

do they work on a sat or is it a computer u will be talking to i would change to a new company

I'm with Npower for gas and electric. Never had a problem if I overpaid, they just send me a cheque for the full overpayment even before I asked.

Also negotiated a better deal pricewise this year with no problems.
right off to the pub to sprend my electric money. Andy
phone them up during working hours and demand your money back and if they do not co-operate tell them you will change energy companies and see if this prompts some action. If this does not work research the company on the www and see if you can find a named person to telephone.

if you do change companies you will then get your refund, but I often find that threatening to leave will make them do what you ask.

if all else fails cancel your DD and see what action they take then.

above all be polite, but be persistent.
I'm having the same arguements with Eon and it makes my blood boil. But Eon have finally takent he decision to refund all creidts in May each year and start a clean sheet. But they are sending me back £80 only to put the DD up by £30 per month. grrrrrrr!

In your case the summer is on the way not the winter and you can't possible be need that £200 credit for more lecci than you're paying for.

I seem to have a similar arguement with them at this time every year but I do find that asking for a manager does the trick. They calm the situation, explain the charges in more detail and more importantly arrange to send a cheque.

I suggest you proceed with care. I disagree with the suggestion that you stop the direct debit- there may be implications such as losing a discount, and you may be in breach of an agreement an this may mean losing an annual discount.
Also, you may not be as much in credit as you think- it may be a timing issue. When I check on line sometimes I fnd I'm in credit, but that's because their latest charges haven't been included yet, and so a few weeks later I find I owe quite a large amount. Check again in a week or two to see whether you are stll in credit by a huge amount.
I was in credit with my electricity and gas at southern electric. I requested online for a refund and it was in my bank within 7 days. Done that about three times and never had a problem. Time to change your supplier.
