How can one find out the make of a car when there is nothing on it giving the name, no manufacturers badge or model etc? A friend wants to check as to whether this person's car is currently taxed, he has the number plate but not the make and model.

Go on a car insurance site and fill in the details. You can then enter the car reg number and it will tell you the make, model etc

Surely it's either displaying a tax disc or it isn't?

Thanks BO....and also the tax disc could be stolen/fake/obtained by non legal means.

Glad you've got some good answers. Your question asked about tax though. You didn't mention insurance. So you can't actually get close enough to the car to look at the tax disc to see if it looks genuine?

It's for a friend Prudie, don't know how close he can get.
