Can you deadhead clematis to encourage new flowers as you do other plants?

Deadheading works best on annual plants. Perennial, woody and longer lived plants tend not to have the 'must produce seed' mechanism spend your energy on your roses much more reward for your efforts... they need dead heading if they are a repeat flowering variety,
Au contraire... Most Clematis respond very well to dead-heading...especially with the early large-flowered single, double and semi double clematis.

It becomes a chore in that many Clematis flower abundantly and one really needs to take off as many spent seed heads as you can...
