Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could grow to climb up an 8ft obelisk which already houses a clematis montana.I would like to add some summer colour when the montana finishes flowering .
Thankyou.

If the clematis is in a good sunny area (at least 8 hours a day) you couldn't go wrong with any of a number of climbing rose varities. The nice aspect is you can select from complementing colors. This one or similar would go well with the <montana http://www.climbingroses.com/cgi-bin/browse.cg i?page=item&sku=sh705 . Keep in mind that roses don't actually climb, but many of the longer cane varities can be trained into your clematis trellis. The rose will bloom until frost and it will help keep the clematis' roots nice and cool, which they deffinitely like. Good luck...

Thankyou Clanad,I was thinking that a rose may be the answer but was worried that it might restrict the growth of the clematis. It does sit in a very sunny position.
