Which is the best `free` virus protection? Mine has expired. I`ve tried `Avg` and `Avast` and each time it says `free` only to find later it wants to apply a charge.
Many thanks.

Thanks Postdog and jubieanna. I thought that prob. was the case but fell down twice doing it so will try again. You are such a help in `answerbank`.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials which I find very good, and it's Free.
The only downside is the daily Updates.
"The only downside is the daily Updates."

Would you rather your anti-virus was not kept up to date?

I set important machines to update their AV every two hours, once a day is nothing.

Certain versions opf AVG and Avadt are free, but they also make chargeble products.

Sometimes these web sites gently direct you to downloading the trial versions (which of course run out after a time).

But if you are always careful then getting the proper free version is usually fairly easy.
Yeah you have to keep looking for the right link on the site, or use a search engine to get you to the right page, just so long as you know the right site to begin with.
