I'm not very clued up on computers I bought 2 new pc's a couple of years ago I got some Mcafee software to go with the pcs and we have been using it as our main security along with some freeware, if thats what it is called. But now some 2-3 years down the line it has started to say it has expired and I need to spend more money on new software.

Do i really need to spend like 40 again twice for the new pc's or can a just keep running the old software with the freeware to top up the protection, or just use free ware??

If the correct term is freeware I am using larasoft and spybot currently with the 'active/constant search' deactivated because it confuses mcafee but I do monthly full system search/scan using this programmes.

Any help, thanks in advance

I don't think you need to spend an extra 40, I would keep running the old 1, you don't say if you have had any problems with it so far, so would continue to use. I use Adware which does not interfere with Mcafee but I would do a weekly scan though to keep on top of it..
The thing with anti-virus software that you have to subscribe to is that the software will download (usually) daily updates, so it covers the latest threats.
If you no longer have a subscription, then what you have already on your machine is what you will be left with and any future threats wont be picked up.

I would get in contact with McAfee as, sometimes, a subscription purchased will come with more than one license - meaning, if it came with two or three licenses, you could put the same license onto both machines.

Leaving these things to chance, or only leaving it to a free anti-virus software is a bit too dangerous for my liking
