A sound piece of advice: never, ever accept a caution without taking legal advice. It is an admission of guilt, and stays on your record for years. In some areas, it stays on your record indefinately. The police are still under a great deal of pressure to 'detect' crimes, so there is a temptation to 'offer' a caution when they feel there may not be enough evidence to secure a conviction in the courts. Admitting guilt and accepting a caution may be in your best interests, but don't take the police's word for it.
