Hi guys, not sure if anyone can advise but for the last 2 days, all of a sudden I have been experiencing excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. I get to the bathroom and when sitting the pain get much worse (almost unbearable and it takes my breath away) and then I defecate. Afterwards, the pain goes away and I am fine until I need to defecate again. Anyone know what this maybe and whether I should see the doctor today or give it time to see if it clears? Thank you!

I am going to toilet regularly so don't think it's that. thanks though :)
If the pain is when you are actually defecating with pain in the anus, then fissure in ano or piles comes to mind, however if it is just before and the pain is in the abdomen, then diverticulosis comes to mind.

No big deal at the moment, give it a couple of days to monitor the situation.
If this is diverticulitis then you need to see your Dr. why take the chance!

new unexplained pain...........talk to gp.
My IBS used to give me similar pains - but it could be anything. If it continues go and see your doctor.
Definitely see your GP to rule out any real nasties. But it is probably IBS/diverticulitis.
Give it a couple more days though. It may be a tummy bug.
You were investigated for GI disorders including IBS and diverticulosis last October................wouldn´t this be a clue?
Oh
could also be endometriosis of the bowel if you are having or jus finished a period.
pmorley........that is extremely rare.

Women with endometriosis do get bowel symptoms, but very rarely due to direct bowel involvement.

Thanks for all your answers, Yes, I was checked over in October and was diagnosed as having ibs. However, this is a different kind of pain, it feels similar to a period pain. It is now hurting around the lower abdomen and lower back and hurts when I sit at a certain angle. It is also now hurting when I urinate. I guess I should get checked over tomorrow.
