"You can't just look at it and say no, it's just junk mail I don't want it."
:-) So what do they do if you do say that? Hold you hostage? Mug you at gunpoint?

Unless you know what it is and need it, I'd forget it. It's not that I have no sympathy for them getting the responsibility of delivering something when it's not been paid for, it's just that they are trying to charge a) too much and b) the wrong person. But there again, a company that ditches a good sensible weight driven price list for some awkward size driven one, probably isn't savvy enough to work that out.
ha ha, yes they do! Last time they took my mobile off me and tied me to the chair until I told them where my purse was.

They always make me pay before I can have the letter.
This happened to me at Christmas twice, I had to pay the price of a 2nd class stamp & £1 handleing charge each.
I suppose its up to you how important you think the letter is.
This is the problem with an imperious customer-inconsiderate monopoly.
DT, and you think any of the private courier firms would behave differently?
Yes I do and the charge wouldnt be such a high mark up....always has been with the Royal Snail - and its an outrage that they are increasing their rates to nigh on a ten bob note for first class when their delivery records are so erratic.
Hard luck gina - but if you just ignore the card, the piece of mail gets sent back to the sender after 3 weeks. If it's a persistent offender (and I get them at work) then I send them a bill, it's their fault for under-stamping the letter.
They always have had a significant multiple on overdues, I think they call it. Any look at a stamp guide such as Stanley Gibbons shows that.....probably to get folk to remember to stamp up the envelope but it is intrinsically unfair as it penalises the receiver, though of course you do get a choice of saying yeah or nay.....but then it is a cheque you are due.
